In today’s day and age with such widespread of food choice, at times food poisoning, stomach flu, infections, or fever become inevitable. One cannot always estimate the freshness and cleanliness of food available at various eateries. Bacteria, germs, or other microorganisms that are invisible to the naked eye may act as a trigger and give rise to a network of symptoms that cause uneasiness in the stomach and could cause vomiting. Other causes of vomiting predominantly include acid reflux and excessive or binge eating. Overeating is very common and unknowingly, we consume food that is beyond the ability of our stomach to digest with ease. Crossing this limit can result in vomiting. Intake of other foods and beverages such as excessive drinking of alcohol can cause vomiting too. Since alcohol has the ability to disrupt the natural lining of the gut, it leads to massive uneasiness.

There are many people who suffer from eating disorders like bulimia and anorexia. These are the inherent causes of vomiting. An individual suffering from these ailments may forcefully vomit out the food consumed in order to attain a particular body image. Other than the aforementioned causes, there are underlying serious conditions that lead to vomiting. These include appendicitis, migraines, and headaches, or tumor. 

 

How To Prevent Nausea

There are several ways to try and prevent nausea from developing:

–   Eat small meals throughout the day instead of three large meals

–   Eat slowly 

–   Avoid hard-to-digest foods

–   Consume cold foods or room temperature if you nauseated by the smell of hot or warm foods

–   Rest after eating with your head elevated about 12 inches above your feet

–   Drink liquids between meals rather than during meals

–   Try to eat when you feel less nauseated

 

How To Prevent Vomiting

When you begin to feel nauseated, you may be able to prevent vomiting by:

–   Drinking small amounts of clear, sweetened liquids such as soda or fruit juices (except orange and grapefruit juices, because these are too acidic)

–   Resting either in a sitting position or in a propped lying position; activity way worsen nausea and may lead to vomiting.

–   To prevent nausea and vomiting in children there some special way that differs from the general preventive way one, such as:

–   To treat motion sickness in a car, seat your child so he or she faces the front windshield (watching fast movement out the side windows can make nausea worse). Also reading or playing video games in the car could cause motion sickness.

–   Don’t let kids eat and play at the same time

 

Home Remedies To Treat Vomiting

In cases of food poisoning or infection, vomiting is often the body’s way of ridding itself of harmful substances. However, there are some steps that you can take to reduce the feelings of nausea and stomach discomfort that often accompany vomiting, such as:

–   Drinking 1 to 2 ounces of clear liquids about 30 minutes after the last vomiting episode occurred. Examples of possible fluids include water, broth, or herbal tea.

–   Avoiding alcohol and carbonated beverages when vomiting, as they will only worsen nausea and lead to further dehydration.

–   Sucking on hard candies, such as lemon drops or mints, to eliminate unpleasant tastes.

–   Drinking ginger tea, ginger ale, or sucking on hard ginger candies. Ginger has antinausea properties that can help a person feel better.

–   Using aromatherapy, or smelling certain scents, may reduce the incidence of nausea. Scents that have antinausea properties include lavender, chamomile, lemon oil, peppermint, rose, and clove.

–   Having plenty of rest is also an important step for giving the body time to heal after a vomiting episode.

 

Home Remedies For Children

Preventing dehydration is an important goal when a child is vomiting. However, they may not always want to drink fluids, so there are other alternative ways to help them take in fluids.

–   Make ice pops or ice cubes from oral rehydration solutions or drinks containing electrolytes.

–   Give a child gelatin as an alternative to liquids. They may tolerate it better or be more likely to eat it.

–   Dilute fruit juice with water. Dilution reduces the amount of sugar in the juice that can worsen diarrhea that sometimes accompanies vomiting.

–   Give a child dehydration fluids 30 to 60 minutes after they have vomited to reduce the likelihood the child will immediately vomit again. Start with a small amount to make sure the child will tolerate it.

–   Provide bland foods to child one they have not vomited for about 8 hours and kept fluids down. Examples include crackers, toast, blend soups, bananas, and mashed potatoes. These foods can help fill and settle the stomach.

Treating a child who is vomiting can be difficult because they are not always able to express what they are feeling. Providing small amounts of hydrating solutions at a time can help.

 

In some conditions, if people vomit for all sorts of reasons, but it’s the severity of the situation that should determine whether or not to seek medical help. Something like food poison is typically not anything to worry about just let it run its course. This goes the same for bouts of motion sickness and stress vomiting. However, there are several instances in which attending an urgent care emergency room is undeniably necessary. So, if you are experiencing nausea and vomiting, you better choose an urgent care center over an emergency room visit or see the doctor in the nearest clinic.

Typically if, you are experiencing any symptoms that may be considered “life-threatening”, you should immediately proceed to the emergency room. Anything short of life-threatening can generally be handled at urgent care. Examples of symptoms that indicate emergency such as; chest pain, difficulty breathing, head trauma, stroke, severe bleeding, loss of vision, vomiting blood. After knowing your symptoms, make sure you give the proper treatment to prevent your vomiting from getting worse.
