Everyday Carry Essentials for Every New Normal Day

Following Jakarta and a rather long list of other cities spread across Indonesia, on July 9, 2020, Bali has officially entered the new normal era. While this is indeed great news that brings an optimistic outlook on the island’s economic recovery, it is crucial to acknowledge that the term ‘new normal’ itself does emphasize that we are currently shifting towards new normal standards in our daily life.

The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia has been actively spreading awareness related to the new normal guidelines, including about the content of ‘the new normal starter kit’ which is now a daily necessity for those who have resumed their daily activities outside the safety of their home. Let’s check out the items on the starter kit along with everything we need to keep in mind about each one of them!

  1. Don’t forget your mask(s)

Don’t go anywhere without wearing your face mask! And remember, surgical masks are only for healthcare workers and other first responders, so everyone else should wear a cloth face mask. Keep in mind that these washable cloth masks should not be worn for more than four hours. Therefore, don’t forget to bring a couple of clean masks with you, especially if your schedule shows that you’ll be out all day.

  1. Personal hygiene items are mandatory

By now, it is safe to assume that everyone in COVID-19 affected areas understands the significance of hand hygiene to protect ourselves against the novel Coronavirus. Therefore, whether in public places or transportation, chances are that you are not going to have access to soap and water every time you need to clean your hands. And that’s exactly why you need to carry a small bottle of alcohol-based hand sanitizer, antiseptic wet wipes, and a small pack of tissues.

  1. Bring a reusable water bottle and cutlery

The World Health Organization has stated that it is highly unlikely that people can contract COVID-19 from food or food packaging. However, experts have also pointed out that by avoiding sharing tableware provided in public places, one might reduce the risk of infection.

  1. Don’t share prayer sets

Muslims normally spend two to three prayer times a day during their productive hours, hence outside the house. Before the pandemic, one could easily use the prayer mat and even prayer cloak (mukena) provided at the mosque or prayer rooms in public places and offices. Today, it is highly suggested that you bring your own prayer set and avoid lending it to others too.

  1. Protect yourself with YOUR helmet

If taking an (online) motorcycle taxi service is how you normally commute or get around, your helmet would be another indispensable addition to your ‘new normal starter kit’. Like with everything else, there is always a chance that the provided helmet might be contaminated despite your rider’s best efforts.

Given the fact that the new normal requires us to carry quite a few things that didn’t use to make it to our list of everyday carry essentials, it is vital to keep every item as small and lightweight as possible. There is probably not much that you can do about your helmet, but the other items are available either in small packaging or its most efficient travel-size. We hope that you’re all set and ready for Bali’s new normal, and please do stay safe!
