Healthy New Year’s Resolutions Ideas for 2023!

Made your Healthy New Year’s resolutions? While many people tend to start January with health goals that are difficult to sustain, the key is to start small, experts say.

Prime Plus has recommendations for making healthy New Year’s resolutions in 2023!

However, though the numbers are not super promising, it is totally possible to keep your New Year’s resolutions. Just make sure that your goals are realistic and achievable. Besides, try to limit your resolutions to essential things, such as those related to your health, so it is easier for you to commit.

The following are Healthy New Year’s Resolutions that you can try to improve your health!

  • Practice good sleep hygiene!

Sleep has a critical role in maintaining our overall health. Studies have revealed that sleep deprivation can cause health issues, from depression to cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, quality sleep must be a priority.

Experts agree that we need to get enough sleep (7-9 hours) to stay physically and mentally healthy. So, let’s begin 2023 with a schedule, lifestyle, and habits that do not prevent you from getting enough quality sleep.

Even simple things such as reducing caffeine intake or a strict no-phone rule once you are in bed for the night can make a real difference!

  • Eat less take-out and more home-cooked meals!

After years of research, in 2017, a team from the University of Washington School of Public Health published results suggesting that people who cook at home more often are likely to eat a healthier overall diet.

Other researchers also found that people who eat more home-cooked meals have less body fat than those who eat more convenience food, which typically contains higher levels of chemical additives, sugar, salt, unhealthy fat, and calories. On top of that, the food portions served by most restaurants also tend to be larger than you need, resulting in overeating.

One simple home-cooked meal a day would go a long way. And once you’ve got the hang of it, you can eventually get most of your meals from your own kitchen.

  • Limit your screen time!

Okay, we might have talked about this one on other occasions, but we cannot stress enough how important it is to unplug and actually relax properly. Of course, we can come up with an entire list of excuses, but at some point, we must admit that most of us are on our phones, tablet, laptop, or in front of the television way more than considered healthy.

Whether you are aware of it or not, being tuned in more than we should is a significant source of stress. Studies have revealed that spending too much time on your devices, especially social media, has been linked to psychological issues such as depression and anxiety. In conclusion, we are not designed to scroll on our phones every time we have a minute in between activities.

For a healthier 2023, remember to unplug, breathe, be present, and allow your mind to rest.

  • Brush, floss, rinse, repeat, and…

Brushing at least twice a day for a minimum of two minutes is mandatory for all people who have teeth, from babies to the elderly. And yes, flossing is a non-optional part of the deal too. In fact, not flossing allows harmful bacteria and plaque to grow in your mouth. And if you have got the above covered, make sure not to miss your regular dental checkup and teeth cleaning once every six months.
